We provide agricultural training and allotment space for refugees to grow their own food, build community, and gain valuable skills. Our program fosters self-sufficiency, cultural exchange, and healing through connection to the land.
Forced to flee their homes, refugees arriving in Berlin often face isolation, language barriers, and a loss of purpose. Many come from agrarian backgrounds and deeply miss the connection to farming and nature. Seeds of Change taps into this existing knowledge and passion, providing a sense of familiarity and accomplishment in an unfamiliar world.
We secure underutilized urban plots and transform them into vibrant, productive gardens. Participants receive their own small plot, seeds, tools, and training in local growing techniques and organic practices. The program is more than just gardening; it's a community hub where participants can share skills, recipes, and stories in their native languages and German.
The harvest provides fresh, culturally appropriate food, reducing grocery bills and improving nutrition. surplus produce is sold at a small weekly market, providing a modest source of income and connecting the gardeners with the wider Berlin community. This campaign will fund the expansion to a new, larger site, including water infrastructure, tool sheds, and a covered meeting area. We will also develop a "train-the-trainer" program to empower experienced participants to lead future cohorts.
This initiative is about planting more than vegetables; it's about planting roots. It reduces social isolation, improves mental well-being, and provides tangible skills that can enhance employability. It creates a beautiful, green space for the entire neighborhood to enjoy, changing perceptions and fostering integration from the ground up.
Your support provides a holistic solution to complex challenges of refugee integration. It addresses food security, mental health, community building, and skill development simultaneously. You are investing in a program that empowers individuals to become active, contributing members of their new community.
Funds will be used to lease land, install essential infrastructure like irrigation and fencing, and purchase seeds, tools, and compost for the growing season. A portion will also fund our part-time coordinator who manages plot assignments, training schedules, and community partnerships.
We envision a network of thriving urban gardens across Berlin that serve as engines of integration and food sovereignty. We see a future where refugees are recognized for the skills and resilience they bring, actively shaping their new city.
Help us turn empty lots into landscapes of hope and belonging. Support a model of integration that is productive, peaceful, and green. Donate today to help a community grow, both in the soil and in spirit.
