We teach homeless and at-risk young people practical bicycle repair skills, providing them with tools, mentorship, and a pathway to employment. A repaired bike provides crucial transportation and a sense of pride.
Transportation is a major barrier for homeless youth trying to access support services, job interviews, and education. A bicycle can be a lifeline, offering free, flexible mobility. Our workshop does more than just fix bikes; it fixes confidence. We provide a safe, welcoming space where young people can learn a valuable trade, work with their hands, and be part of a supportive community.
Participants learn everything from fixing a flat tire to overhauling gears and brakes under the guidance of experienced mechanics. The bikes we work on are donated by the public, refurbished, and then given to the participants or sold at low cost to the community to fund our program. This learn-by-doing model provides immediate, tangible results that boost self-esteem.
We also partner with local bike shops that offer internships and job placements to our most promising graduates. This campaign will fund a year of workshop sessions, covering rent for our space, tools, spare parts, and a stipend for our lead mechanic who mentors the youth. We believe in equipping young people with the skills and resources they need to move forward in life, literally and figuratively.
Homeless youth often face immense barriers to stability, including a lack of address, references, and formal qualifications. This makes finding employment incredibly difficult, trapping them in a cycle of poverty and insecurity.
To provide practical skills, work experience, and reliable transportation to homeless youth. To foster self-reliance, discipline, and hope. To act as a bridge to further training and employment in the cycling industry and beyond.
Funds will be used to secure a permanent workshop location, purchase professional-grade tools, and buy safety equipment and spare parts in bulk. A portion will also fund our outreach efforts to connect with youth on the streets.
If we exceed our target, we will launch a "Earn-a-Bike" program where community members can volunteer time in the workshop to earn a bike, and develop advanced mechanic training modules.
A bike is freedom. It's a way to get to a job, an appointment, or just away from a dangerous situation. The skills learned are transferable and build a foundation for a stable future.
Help us put the tools for change directly into the hands of young people who need it most. Your support provides more than a bike; it provides direction, purpose, and the means to keep moving forward. Donate to power their journey.
