Introduction

Urban Echoes is a curated art series that seeks to distill the essence of the world's most dynamic cities into a collection of vibrant, graphic silkscreen prints. This project goes beyond simple representation; it is about capturing a feeling—the rhythmic pulse of a subway station, the quiet dignity of a centuries-old facade, or the chaotic beauty of a neon-lit alleyway. Each cityscape is deconstructed into its core geometric shapes and most iconic color palettes, then rebuilt layer by layer through the meticulous process of screen printing, resulting in a piece that is both modern and timeless.

We begin with extensive on-location sketching and photography, absorbing the unique atmosphere and details of each city. These initial studies are then translated into simplified, powerful designs in our Berlin studio, where we focus on composition, contrast, and the emotional impact of color. The printing process itself is a physical and demanding art form; each color in the final print requires a separate screen to be precisely aligned (or registered) by hand. This manual process means that each print in the edition has slight, unique variations, making it a true original work of art rather than a perfect mechanical reproduction.

The paper selected for this project is 100% cotton rag, acid-free museum-grade stock, ensuring the colors remain vivid and the paper stable for decades to come. We use high-quality, light-fast inks that will not fade over time. The series will launch with four cities: Berlin, Tokyo, New York, and Lisbon, with plans to expand based on the success of this campaign and input from our backers.
